How SprayLab Works

The fist step in designing a finishing system is to determine the best application method (HVLP, air spray, air assist airless, airless, conventional or electrostatic). Once the best method of application is determined, automatic, semi-automatic, or manual applications are tested and defined.

After the spray application method is defined and proven, flash time schedules are determined to meet the coatings’ requirements. The method of curing is then tested using convection or infrared or infrared hybrid methods. After proving out the curing method, cool time schedules are tested and documented. The finishing system is then ready for the Spray Equipment Engineering Department to define system layout, best utilizing floor space and vertical space. All of this is done without interruption to the customer’s production line.

SprayLab Equipment Includes:

Environmental controls to simulate dry winter temperatures versus summer humid conditions.

Four inch I-beam monorail adjustable speed conveyor system with a capacity of up to 1 ton.

Product envelope size 40 inch depth by 60 inches high by 96 inches long.

Spray booth with variable frequency drive controls to simulate design specifications capable of wet or dry coatings.

Combination test oven capable of convection, infrared, or infrared hybrid testing. Linear vertical reciprocator for automatic testing.

Data pack logging of cure cycles for validation of coating cure schedule. Coating hardness test, gloss test, mill test, and other characteristics of materials are tested and recorded.

The latest technology available of spray application methods are used during testing.
